Gurudongmar Lake, is one among top 15 highest lakes in the world. The Lake is situated at about 17100 feet. The lake is named after founder of Tibetan Buddhism, Guru Padmasambhava. The Lake is located in north Sikkim and China border is just few Kilometers away. Gurudongmar Lake remains frozen mostly throughout the year but by God’s grace some portion of it remains unfrozen. The place is like heaven on earth. It has been declared sacred Lake. There is a Gurudwara beside the Lake. The area is basically a desert. The Due to lack of Oxygen tourists cannot stay long here but the spot offers breathtaking view of Mount Siniolchu and Khanchendzonga along with the frozen Lake.
How to reach:
Siliguri or Bagdogra to Gangtok; Gangtok to Lachen it takes around 7 hrs via Mangan and Chungthang, approx 108 Km. Lachen to Thangu 1.45 hrs 35km. Thangu to Gurudongmar Lake distance is 32Km takes around 1.45 hrs.
